The court heard how witnesses estimated the car had been travelling at speeds of between 50mph and 70mph when the crash happened.

Anwar, who worked for a car hire company and had collected the high performance car from a customer, handed himself into police later that evening.

However, just two months later, Anwar was stopped again for speeding on the M6 but no charges were made.

Geoffrey Southcote Want, prosecuting, said: "He took a chance it seems and overtook the traffic it was a chance that was to have fatal consequences."

Michael Maher, defending, said that Anwar had panicked when he ran away.

Traffic officer Paul Bushby, from Greater Manchester Police, said Anwar showed no remorse by continuing to speed on the roads following the fatal crash.

He added: "I don’t know if it was bravado, showing off to his passenger, or if it was just because he could drive that fast in a performance car."
