Most moms of boys have had that moment when they walked into a clothing store and felt let down. Not because they wanted a girl or because dressing boys isn’t fun, but because the selection of boys clothes can just be so sparse compared to girl clothes.

In our Community, moms of boys on the August 2012 Birth Club were discussing how to dress their little guys. And some had the same complaint I have, "ALL you see is gobs of girl outfits and not a single boy thing except the folded table with tshirts on it. have three boys, who are 7, 5 and 3 years old. And my daughter just turned 7 months old. So while I’m still fairly new to the world of pink and tights and bows, I am a boy clothes veteran. Dressing a little girl is fun, but dressing little boys is just as delightful. But darn if it doesn’t take longer to find cute boy clothes.

I’ve longed for a children’s clothes retailer to take the lead on boy clothes. There are plenty of us moms of boys out there and we complain about the disparity between the girl section and the boy section. I’m sure there must be market research that says moms of girls buy more clothes,

We shop at Kohl and find that they have a great selection of items for my almost 3yo son. If you shop clearance with a coupon and for the next season you will get a great deal! We love the sweater vests and button downs from Chaps and they also carry a nice line of Osh Kosh if you picky about brands. Perhaps I just feel like this is a good selection because my daughter is only 3 months old and has a closet full of clothes that people gave us as gifts or hand me downs so I haven even glanced at the girls sections at stores yet!

It getting better now that my son is older and has preferences towards certain types of clothes (right now he on a Super Mario kick, and Super Mario shirts are fairly easy to find). There are just as many boy options as girl options and I can find coordinating outfits for all five boys there. Boys have plenty fun clothes. In fact, they get the cuter hoodies (super hero sweaters, complete with cape or pointed ears on the hoods, I just saw a shark hoodie on a little boy, absolutely adorable). Broaden your horizons.

I think it a fair criticism that clothes are overly gendered for both boys and girls. Is it really so hard to make clothes in solid colors, or stripes, or patterns. Do all boys have have sports/trucks/dionosaurs on them? Do all girls cloths have to be pink or glittery? I can see the frustration on both sides.

My big gripe is when I want to dress my boy up. Last year for his first Easter I literally walked our entire mall looking for something for him to wear. Three major department stores and several smaller kid stores and I literally found not one single dressy outfit in my sons size. Just racks and racks of little girl dresses. I was almost in tears when I gave up and left. I later discovered my local target did have one rack of little boy clothes and I was able to find him a cute sweater vest, it wasn exactly what I wanted but worked out ok. This year I haven even bothered he probably end up wearing the same dress pants and white button down shirt he been wearing to church since Christmas. Don clothing manufactures realize plenty of boy moms would gladly fork over our money if they offered us anything to buy.

THANK YOU! Seriously, what is it with clothing retailers? And not just them. I a fan of those sites and in the past year they offered Baby Legs for just boys once, that right once in a year. They have them for just girls once a month. It like they assume if you have a boy you can be bothered, or don want anything cute.

Carter has some cute stuff, but the quality is poor. Everything shrinks and the seams give way after a few washes anyways. I bought from them in the beginning and people gave me things from there but I going to stop shopping there.

It a shame I down one store though as it is slim pickings out there. Neimans has only a tiny selection, the same goes for Nordstrom (though there more online). I like the Offspring clothing line, but I will need more than pj at some point. Recently I was in Baby Gap and was pretty impressed with the quality. So much so that I bought out the entire Beatrix Potter line. I guess I glad I have a more conservative preppy style cause most of our stuff will be coming from them in the future. They seem to have a more even divide of boys and girls stuff. It would be nice if more retailers took their lead.
