I suggest going to Stride Rite. I know it’s not cheap, but they have shoes for kids of all different walking stages. I have some hardsoled shoes that are still flexible for my little walker. Many of the other dress shoes have soles that seem way too hard and inflexible. If there is another choice or place with something similar, I’d also like to know about it. Also, check childrens consignment stores (Once Upon A Child), they often have a good selection of used shoes that are in mint condition.
If they are special occasion shoes, they will be fine! My daughter just started wearing hard sole shoes a couple weeks ago (been walking for 3 months) and she does great in them. Of course barefoot is still best! From what I’ve read going barefoot (socks) is best as much as possible until the age of 2. If you do get regular (nonspecial occasion) hard sole shoes I would make sure they are plenty flexible still.
