Hello, my name is Summer Bellessa with Eliza Magazine and I’m here today to discuss the fashion trends of the 1980s. So, three fashion icons from that time period are Madonna, Princess Diana and Jane Fonda. I think every girl remembers Princess Diana’s dress with the huge puffy sleeves and huge skirts. So, the 80s were a lot about excess. So, lots of fabric; really bright colors; neons were a big trend. Jeans were peg legged and either acid washed or light. Also, a trend was to roll the jeans. So, you take your peg leg and you fold it in and then roll it up one or two times, or three times, whatever you preferred, and that was a big trend in the 1980s. With MTV launching, that also changed fashion dramatically. And I think musicians were huge influenced of what was in style. On the opposite side of thins, I think the, the yuppie fashion was huge also. Instead of the bright neons, theirs was more into the pastels; the light pink, the light yellows, the white. Also another trend that you can’t forget about the 80s is the power suit. Women, their shoulder pads became bigger and they also would wear sneakers to get to work and then put their heels on once they got there. That lovely, lovely fashion trend is specifically for the 80s. So I’m Summer Bellessa and that was the fashion trends of 1980s.
