Pearl River 2, Pittsford 0: In a Little League Majors Division state tournament semifinal at Canastota, Mandy McCarthy pitched a one hitter with six strikeouts. Kelly Hayes drove in Dee O’Malley to break a scoreless tie in the sixth inning, and Caroline Kardashian scored the insurance run on a wild pitch.

“It was 0 0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, when their girl led off with a triple with nobody out,” Pearl River shortstop Sam Alicandri said. “When we got out of that without them scoring, we came in really pumped to score in our next at bat, and we did. The team really responded.”

The game ended with a standout defensive play by Alicandri, preserving the shutout and the win with runners on first and second. state championship game against Chatham.

“It’s pretty awesome to be a state finalist,” she said. “We’re pumped up for it. We’ll bring our ‘A’ game tomorrow no matter what.”

Kensico 6, Eastchester 5: Elena Radesich had two big hits, and drove in the winning Nike Free Run run, as Kensico won the District 20 Little League 9 10 year old championship at Sherman Park’s Volunteer Field. Jenna Saldi had two RBI to give her nine in the three game tournament. Emily Bisesto was a team leader at catcher and had two hits in the title game. Kaylie Dymek was the winning pitcher to complete a tournament in which she went 3 0 and hit three Nike Roshe Run home runs. Kensico advances to the sectional tournamen, which begins Saturday at Volunteer Field.

Total Kaos 10, Ohio Hurricanes 1: In a 16 and under PONY Nationals tournament game in Akron, OH, Leann Cerbone went 3 for 4 with four RBI. Talia Peck went 3 for 3 with two RBI.

Hudson Valley Hurricanes Blue 8, South Jersey Breakers 0: In a FAST Nike Free Run Nationals 16 and under tournament pool play game in Orlando, Fla., Ashley D’Young allowed one hit in five innings and struck out 11. Brittany Brand had two hits and two RBI.

Hudson Valley Hurricanes Blue 3, North Shore Rebels 2: In a FAST Nationals 16 and under tournament pool play game in Orlando, winning pitcher Elise Pennington struck out eight. Cassandra Torres had two hits and two RBI.
