Once upon a time you could say there was “one Australian dream” when it came to property. It involved a quarter acre and a lot of other things that have gone the way of the wireless
Back in these days, it was easy as an agent to know how to market a property accordingly. But as a new generation of buyers enter the market and urbanisation has continued its advance, the notion of a “dream property” and who it might be a dream for, has changed.
An example: for some segments of the market, particularly Gen Y, an Air Jordan 13s apartment is often preferable to a house and land. “With apartments you can get “an affordable property but in a really great area. Close to amenities, transport and close to cultural activities.”
The youngest generation of home buying Australians seem to make the housing fit in with their lifestyle and not the other way around. Masters sees the typical demographics purchasing apartments for habitation as “Gen Y up and coming home buyers looking for an affordable place to get into the market.” However, surprisingly, the Baby Boomer generation also “love apartments”, Masters says. Why? “Because they’re more affordable for investments.” Dream investment properties are dream homes too!
According to Masters, the middle generation or Generation X is where the traditional Australian dream of a “clothesline out the back and a verandah out the front” is well and truly living on. “We have these Gen Xers, who still need that house, they need that yard space. Because if you’ve got kids they need some space to run. And having a park nearby is just not enough. Being stuck in a box like apartment will drive you batty.” For them, he argues the semi is the ideal affordable middle ground where you can comfortably have your cake and eat Air Jordan 19s it too.
Will Rothwell, of Winten Property Group in Sydney, thinks that, generally speaking, the free standing house has been a “traditional love object for a long time in Australia. I don’t think we’ll relinquish it any time soon, but there will be a shift towards more urban development.” This is not necessarily Air Jordan 23s a result of a changing dream home, but a consequence of steeper prices for homes with land within a reasonable distance of the city.
House and land will still be “a big part of the dream, but it’ll probably be a little harder to attain.” Rothwell continues: “It’s not to say that one’s better or Air Jordan 2 Retro one’s worse. But it’s going to be harder to get that patch of dirt. It’ll be much more affordable to get an apartment.”
Rothwell predicts a major re think of how Australians approach public space in the country’s immediate future. For access to good schools and amenities, Australians may have to get more comfortable with the idea of raising a family in an apartment. “European cities have had that density for hundreds of years. They’re much more used to it, and make better use of public space.” For Rothwell, the shift may finally come when “public space adjacent to these sites is utilised in a more meaningful and useful way.”

The goal of buying a free standing house on land persists, despite different ‘dream homes’ across buyer segments. So it pays to have some pros up your sleeve when it comes to selling inner city living on a smaller scale.
GAIN 1. TRANSPORT. Being close to public transport is a major Air Jordan 5s boon. Because who likes spending an hour or more in traffic every day?
GAIN 2. EDUCATION. Being close to quality schools near city centres is a major point in the apartment’s favour. It’s too important a decision to compromise for a backyard, isn’t it?
GAIN 3. CULTURE. Being close to centres of cultural influence is something you dream about in the ‘burbs.
